A Legal Career at KPKB
Current Openings
We appreciate your interest in joining our family. KPKB really is a different kind of law firm and we want to provide you with some information to help you determine whether you would enjoy practicing law with us. KPKB is not the right place for every lawyer. But for some lawyers, it will be a great place to practice.
Our lawyers share some deeply held beliefs that create the culture, for which our firm is widely known:
- We believe in the importance of our family feeling. Our Firm is much, much less class structured than most other law firms. We see ourselves - lawyers and support staff - as working harmoniously together to provide responsive, high quality services to our clients.
- We work hard for our clients and the Firm but are equally committed to 'having a life' outside the practice of law: family and community.
- We believe that the quality of a firm is driven by the quality of its clients and the nature of the assignments from those clients. We aspire to have the very best clients, for whom we do their most important legal work while serving as their trusted advisors.
- We reject the notion that compensation should be linked to the size of a firm. Where possible and appropriate, we prefer that our compensation be linked to the results we achieve for our clients.
- We are committed to a collaborative meritocracy wherein lawyers are compensated for the value they contribute to the Firm.
- We believe that the key to delivering superior compensation to our lawyers is to be a well managed business. We see ourselves as a business and manage our firm like we would expect our most successful clients to manage their business.
This set of beliefs is not universally accepted at other law firms. And, we respect that other firms may have a different set of beliefs.
If you are still interested in learning more about a career at Kluger Peretz Kaplan & Berlin, below you will find a list of the attributes you will need to be successful.
Successful Candidate Attributes
We believe strongly that it is in your best interest, as well as ours, for you to understand the attributes that we look for in evaluating whether a candidate will enjoy practicing with the our team. You know yourself, better than we ever could hope to, even with our diligent interviewing process. So we ask that you assess whether you are a good fit for our firm.
Remember that different firms look for different attributes, so not matching up with our desired attributes is not a negative reflection on your career accomplishments. The following attributes will provide you with good insight as to how you would perform here and how much you would enjoy practicing with our team.
What We Look For
Our lawyers share the following attributes which have become our guide for extending offers to join our team:
- A Passion for Practicing Law
Our lawyers enjoy practicing law! Our litigators enjoy going to court when a solution cannot otherwise be fashioned between the parties. Our transactional lawyers enjoy the thrill of getting a deal closed (when such makes sense for our client). We believe one cannot provide the high level of client service expected by our clients without such passion.
- Desirous of Serving the Best Clients on Their Most Important Matters
Our Firm strategy is centered around serving the best clients on their most important matters. Unlike at firms where volume of work is the primary measure of new business development for a lawyer, we reward most those lawyers who bring in top quality work from clients willing to pay a premium price on a timely basis.
- Smart
When you work on the best clients and their most important matters, you have to be smart. Now, we are not talking about smart strictly in the academic way...we are talking about the kind of broad based intelligence that produces superior results for our clients.
- Respectful of Others
There is no place in our Firm for lawyers who do not respect others. We expect all of our lawyers to be role models in respecting the rights, dignity, and strengths of others no matter whether they be colleagues, clients, or members of the communities in which we operate and live. For us, this is not a negotiable point. The foundation of our family culture is mutual respect.
- Collaborative
Our lawyers appreciate the benefits of collaborating with other smart lawyers. If you are currently practicing in a silo firm or as a sole practitioner, you will hopefully enjoy being able to bounce your ideas off a colleague so as to improve the results created for our clients.
- High Energy
Our clients expect a responsiveness that makes this a very important attribute. At our offices there is a vibrancy in the halls, which we cherish. We think this overall high level of energy comes from love for our practice, our commitment to keeping ourselves in good physical condition, and our positive mindset.
- A Life Beyond Your Practice
Providing clients with balanced, objective advice requires that a lawyer be well grounded. We believe that this is most likely to happen when the lawyer has a life beyond the office. And with the Firm's economic model being based on value created for clients, rather than hours expended, there is no Firm focus on building the kind of hours machine that so often destroys one's personal life.
- A Demonstrated Record of Achievement
We look for high achievers...lawyers who hold themselves to high standards. We seek colleagues with a demonstrated track record of achievement whether in school, in athletics, in community involvement or in your practice area. Our Team is filled with individuals that have 'bootstrapped' themselves to get the best grades, get into the best schools, or to achieve peer recognition at early points in their career (as with recognition in various 'Best Lawyer' rankings).
- Open to Learning
We provide our lawyers with skills training designed to provide them with a competitive advantage in selling and serving the very best clients. If you are open to learning new ways to attract business and to keep your clients enthusiastic about your service, then you will benefit from our learning experiences. - Please consider these attributes very carefully before seeking to join our Team. If you believe that you are a good fit, inquiries should be directed to Human Resources Director, Jeanette Carrillo. All inquiries will be handled in the strictest of confidence. We ask that you express your interest in writing and provide us with a copy of your resume. We will promptly respond to every written inquiry that includes a resume.
