KPKB Forces Fractional Settlement of Claims Against Dominican Republic Developer

MIAMI—Threatening additional litigation in the Dominican Republic, the Miami-based law firm KPKB forced a South Florida architect to settle for a minimal amount in a hotly contested lawsuit against a Dominican-based resort developer.

After failing to furnish, in a timely manner, plans for a multimillion-dollar resort, casino, and marina, the architect claimed that its non-performance resulted from the developer’s failure to make progress payments.  The architectural firm sued in Florida state court, seeking the reasonable value of it services.

Retained by the developer, KPKB vigorously opposed against Florida jurisdiction and threatened suit in the Dominican Republic, yielding a negotiated settlement valued at a fraction of the cost of defense.
