The KPKB Nine-Point Promise to Referring Lawyers

1.      KPKB will never 'poach' your client. We will never suggest to a client that they hire us directly, but will instead always respect and encourage the referring lawyer's pre-existing relationship with the client.

2.      In the event that a referred-in client approaches KPKB to replace referring counsel, we will promptly raise the issue with referring counsel for input.

3.     Every matter referred to KPKB will have assigned to it a single point person to ensure that referring counsel remains appropriately informed.

4.     Prior to accepting a referral engagement we shall identify any potential conflicts and where such exist or subsequently develop we will make every effort to help referring counsel identify and retain qualified alternate counsel.

5.   All work performed on the matter shall be assigned to attorneys with requisite skills and experience and who shall be appropriately supervised. Work shall be assigned to attorneys with the lowest billing rate at KPKB for someone with requisite experience for a given task.

6.      Management of the case shall comply with all applicable ethical standards and be mindful of the need to provide a historical summary of events in order to keep referring counsel fully apprised of case status.

7.      Where consultants and/or experts are needed retention shall be based solely on competency. KPKB will not accept any referral fee for selecting any professional. The work of any retained professional shall be subject to appropriate oversight so as to be sure their work is competently performed in a cost efficient manner. Although KPKB clearly cannot be the guarantor of the work of other professionals, we recognize our oversight responsibility and are diligent in performing such oversight.

8.     KPKB shall maintain a system that accurately summarizes time and expenses incurred in working on a given matter. The supervising attorney will be responsible for assuring that any time and expenses charged to a matter are appropriate and reasonable.

9.      KPKB shall make available one of its Visiting Partners' Offices to all referring counsel so that during those times when they must travel to our city to serve the immediate or any other client they can be as productive and comfortable as possible.
