Michael Chesal Chosen for Outstanding Member of the Year Award by the Florida Bar Business Law Section
Date: July 26, 2006

MIAMI – July 26, 2006 – The leading South Florida law firm of Kluger, Peretz, Kaplan & Berlin P.L. (KPKB) today announced that Michael Chesal received the Outstanding Member of the Year Award from the Florida Bar’s Business Law Section, for his work in spearheading passage of Florida’s new trademark statute.  Chesal concentrates his practice on intellectual property law issues.

The Outstanding Member of the Year Award is given annually to a member of the Florida Bar Business Law Section for exemplary work in the field of law and unsurpassed contribution of time and talent.  Since joining the Business Law Section over ten years ago, Chesal has held several honorable positions including his latest appointment as Chairman of the Florida Bar Business Law Section's Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee.

“This is a tremendous honor that brings acclaim to Michael and the firm,” said Howard Berlin, managing partner of Kluger, Peretz, Kaplan & Berlin.  “Michael serves as a great Ambassador for our firm and we all owe him our congratulations for a job well done.”

As part of his work for the Intellectual Property Law Committee of the Florida Bar, Chesal chaired a task force charged with updating the Florida Trademark Act to respond to changes in federal law and to expand the protections afforded by owners of Florida trademark registrations.  The new bill streamlines the application process and provides more direction for attorneys when they file trademark applications for clients. It also allows for an administrative hearing if an application is denied, and in the event of litigation, provides for the recovery of attorneys’ fees to the prevailing party.

Chesal previously served as Chairman of the Florida Bar’s Intellectual Property Law Committee, and most recently was appointed Chairman of the Florida Bar Business Law Section's Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee for 2006-2007.  Chesal earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and his B.S.B.A. from the University of Florida.
