The Florida Super Lawyer list is the creation of Law and Politics magazine to empower and inform consumers of legal services. The criteria and process used in creating the Florida Super Lawyer list follows.
- Ballots are mailed to every lawyer in Florida who has been in practice a minimum of 5 years.
- Lawyers are asked to nominate the best of their peers based on a first hand knowledge.
- Each candidate is researched evaluating indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.
- Selections are then reviewed by "a blue ribbon panel" comprised of preeminent peers representing over 60 areas of practice.
- Combined point totals from the general survey, screening process, and the blue ribbon panel review are compiled and candidates are then segregated by firm size.
- From the pool of candidates, only 5% of Florida lawyers are selected as Florida Super Lawyers.
- Top point-getters from each of three firm size categories are selected as Super Lawyers in approximately 60 areas of practice.
