“Legal counsel must be imparted with an understanding of the client's business goals as well as the underlying technology or service at the heart of their business. This is true whether the matter involves protecting
intellectual property assets or enforcing and defending a client's rights."

-- William R. Trueba, Intellectual Property Law

A registered patent attorney, Will knows technology first hand. Early in his career he trained as an engineer and worked for Florida Power & Light Company. While there, his primary projects included working with the system protection and controls group, the successful overhaul of the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant facility in the early 90's, and the post-Hurricane Andrew restoration effort.

Nowadays, Will provides intellectual property services and practical business counseling with regard to the protection of intellectual property assets, patent acquisition, trademark and copyright protection, computer technologies, and trade secrets for clients in industries ranging from hospitality to manufacturing to the building trades.

“I practice law because I believe in our system of laws and, in particular, its functions of facilitating commerce, resolving disputes, and protecting the weak. We, as lawyers, play a critical role in the legal system."

From Will’s Case Files

Helping Everyone Benefit: In a recent patent case I was defending a party accused of infringement. But I was able to discover facts about the manner in which the patent was procured that resulted in my client being exonerated. Further, my work also led to my client actually developing a favorable business relationship with the patent owner such that all parties benefited.

“Minor” Discrepancy, Major Settlement: In another patent infringement case, in which I was representing the patent owner, I discovered a subtle discrepancy in the reporting of sales of the infringing goods that when corrected represented over $2 million in revenues. That discovery greatly influenced a favorable settlement for my client.
