“I listen very carefully to what clients tell me. While one approach might work for one client, a completely different strategy is appropriate for another. The key is to understand what the client wants to achieve. Once I understand their goal, I can create a plan to accomplish it.”
--Terri Meyers, Commercial Litigation
Terri Meyers' practice focuses on resolving, and when necessary litigating, disputes for clients in a variety of business enterprises. Of particular note is her experience in helping clients with matters regarding the protection and defense of their intellectual property. Terri has represented several Internet based companies who have sought protection and enforcement for their businesses. She is experienced in common Internet issues such as domain name registration, protection of copyright material, and various infringement issues that may arise on the World Wide Web.
“My clients have many passions – litigation is usually not one of them. Problems weigh people down and stifle the spirit. As their counsel, I’m their problem solver. I truly enjoy alleviating the problem so they can get back to what they love doing.”
Another industry in which Terri has a passion for and for which she has accumulated significant experience is the construction industry. Active in regional and local trade groups, she has become well rounded in the types of legal and business matters facing owners of construction companies, and also those of architects and developers.
From Terri’s Case Files
Forcing the Other Side to Negotiate: I obtained the appointment of a receiver to take over a mismanaged company. This, I saw, was the most effective step in obtaining an ideal resolution of the case. Taking steps that force the other side to the table is often the most effective way to resolve cases. The key is to keep it practical by resolving cases early before lengthy litigation.
Negotiation, Yes; Litigation, No: When my contractor client lost a large construction contract due to the owner’s change in construction plans, I was able to negotiate a favorable pre-suit settlement that resolved the case without the need for lengthy litigation.
